 Choosing the Right Cameras ...

Wide Dynamic Camera

Wide Dynamic Range Cameras

Look at the images above. The one on the left has Wide Dynamic OFF and one or the right has Wide Dynamic ON. You'll notice that when the door is opened the image with the "Wide Dynamic OFF" looses all details outside the door as well as some details inside the door.

Backlight Compensation (BLC)

Automatically adjusts picture brightness depending on lighting conditions. This helps overcome strong backlighting which normally results in silhouettes or shadows.

There are several situations where a Wide Dynamic camera is the best choice but they do cost more, so sometimes a camera with Backlight Compensation (BLC) will do the job for you.

Sample Images

Wide Dynamic Loss of detail in underexposed areas with Backlight compensation off.
Wide Dynamic
Loss of detail in overexposed areas with Backlight compensation on. This would make it hard to see someone standing outside the doors.
Wide Dynamic
With Wide Dynamic ON indoor and outdoor details are clearly visible.

Truck WDR off Loss of details inside the truck.
Truck WDR ON Inside and outside of the truck are clearly visible with a Wide Dynamic camera.

How Wide Dynamic Range Cameras Work

How to WD
Analog CCD Camera
All pixels in the array have the exact same shutter speed. This will causes Bright areas to be overexposed and dark areas to be underexposed.
How to WD
Wide Dynamic Camera
Pixels in bright areas automatically adjust to eliminate overexposure. Pixels in dark areas automatically adjust to eliminate underexposure.

Every pixel is a self-adjusting camera (400.000 pixels will act as 400.000 cameras auto adjust on each own lighting condition)

Other Features That Can Improve Images

There are several other features available on today's cameras that can greatly enhance your videos and deliver better images. Some of them include...

Automatic Iris
A device in the lens that self-adjusts to light level changes. The iris opens or closes to control the amount of light passing through the lens.

White Balance
A process used in video cameras to retain true colors.

Automatic Gain Control (AGC) Amplifies existing video to help camera create an enhanced video signal at low light levels.
